Top Ten Book Romances That You Think Would Make It In The Real World

1.  Claire and Jamie Frasier (the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon)–their love is so strong it manages to survive the ultimate Long Distance Relationship–instead of being separated by miles, they’re separated by time, almost 2 centuries worth.

2.  Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs (Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffery Deaver)–she’s a former model with arthritis issues, he’s a formal criminalist paralyzed from the neck down, but somehow, they relationship they have works.  Amelia is Rhyme’s eyes and ears out in the field while investigating the most twisted crimes that Jeffery Deaver can think up, but at home…she puts up with his crankiness and loves and supports him.  Once on the brink of committing suicide, Rhyme now has more than one reason to live–Sachs and solving crimes, something he thought he’d never have.

3.  The Black Stallion and Alec Ramsey (The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley)–never underestimate the love of a boy for his horse.

4.  Dismas Hardy and Frannie Cochran Hardy (Dismas Hardy series by John Lescroart)–Dismas meets Frannie while investigating her husband’s murder, and eventually they marry.  He raises Eddie’s child as his own, and loves Frannie unconditionally.  They have their ups and downs, just like a real married couple, but you know whatever the issue (jobs, kids, ect), these two will work it out.

5.  Talia and Dirk (the Heralds of Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey)–he’s a walking scarecrow, she’s the Queen’s Own Herald.  He saves her from death (at the risk of his own) after she takes a massive overdose while imprisoned by Ancar and Hulda by Fetching her out of the prison.  Their love is so meant to be that the Companions of Valdemar break a long-standing unwritten rule that they don’t talk to anyone other than their chosen to lend Dirk the strength he needs to get Talia back.

6.  Illyria and Laric (The Secret of the Unicorn Queen series by Various Authors)–She’s the leader of a band of outlaw unicorn riders, he’s cursed to spend half of his time as a giant eagle, but yet they still love each other.

7.  Elena and Stephan (The Vampire Diaries trilogy by LJ Smith)–he’s a vampire, she’s a snooty high school girl.  She even dabbles in fooling around with his brother…but only because he takes over her dreams.  Stephan and Elena overcome many obstacles–his brother, his old girlfriend, Elena dying several times, and yet they still remain strongly in love.

8.  Perrin and Faile (The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan)–he’s a country boy, she’s royalty, but she doesn’t care.  She decides that Perrin is the one for her, he just doesn’t realize it at first.  When Faile is kidnapped, Perrin’s one mission is to GET HER BACK, no matter if it causes the end of the world.

9.  Elizabeth Holland and Will, the stable boy (The Luxe by Anna Godbersen)–she loves him so much that she fakes her own death to get out of marrying someone else.  But that’s okay, her fiancée seems to be more interested in her sister Diana, anyway.

10.  Sparhawk and Ehlana (The Tamuli, the Elenium, by David Eddings)–Sparkhawk saves Ehlana from certain death in the Elenium, only to find out that she’s been in love with him since she was a little girl.  He protests (a little too much), but Ehlana wins him over, and they marry.  They have a daughter, and that daughter turns out to be a goddess.

Relationships that would NOT survive in the Real World:

Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara (Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell)–he’s too selfish, she’s too greedy and self-centered.  I’m sure, if we were able to see more of Scarlett (I’m not counting the sequel) written properly, Scarlett would have had at least 3 more husbands, each one richer than the last.  Sure, she probably would have mooned over Rhett as the “one who got away” for the rest of her life…but she wouldn’t let it hold her back.

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark (the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins)–If the Hunger Games had actually happened…Katniss would have gone off and either been a hermit or married someone completely unrelated to the Games or the Revolution.  The fact that she ends up with Peeta and has kids?  Completely unrealistic.

Kerrie Guthrie and Chris Layne (Leaps and Bounds by Jaqueline Diamond)–they wouldn’t have even started dating, as Kerrie is Chris’ daughters DANCE TEACHER.  completely and totally unethical!  Not to mention that she’s barely 10 years older than his daughter…

Bianca Olivier and Lucas (the Evernight series by Claudia Gray)–too many insurmountable odds, and they’re no Romeo and Juliet.  She’s a vampire, he’s a vampire hunter.  He’s off hunting vampires, she’s essentially not allowed to leave school grounds.  Her parents are vampires, his mom’s the one who got him into vampire hunting…yeah, not gonna happen, in the real world, someone would have died, you know, like when Bianca’s father figured out he was a Black Cross member…
